Stronghold Walkthrough And Review

Stronghold is a 2-4 player game telling the story of a siege. Players take opposite sides, one has to defend the stronghold, the other has to break into the castle as soon as possible. As time passes, defenders get Victory Points every turn for their efforts on the walls. The game board represents the stronghold itself as well as the surrounding terrain, where enemy forces are placed and from where they proceed to the walls. The defender has a small amount of soldiers manning the walls, while the invader has an infinite legion of them! A desperate fight is taking place every single turn. The invaders build war machines, equip their soldiers, train them and use black magic rituals to achieve victory. Meanwhile, defenders repair walls, build cannons, train soldiers and do everything they can to hold the castle as long as possible.

A Look Back at Kingdom Builder

For this Look Back we're digging up Donald X. Vaccarino's Kingdom Builder, our review game one year ago. At the time it was the new hotness and it won the Spiel Des Jahres. Chris doesn't own it but he loves the game. It's one he believes he could get his wife into it. Brian, as expected, finds nothing appealing about Kingdom Builder. After contemplation he explains his distaste for Kingdom Builder as a disconnect between the theme and the rules. Jamie enjoys abstract games and loves Kingdom builder, the strategy and simplicity of the gameplay really appeals to him. Since Tony isn't here to represent himself, he's been playing it a lot on his iPad and would probably say, "I want to play this again."

What Triggers our Acquisition Disorder

The founders take turns going in depth and sharing what triggers their AD: theme, rounding out a collection, obscure and wacky concepts, weight of a box, gameplay triggers, etc.. They also cover what triggers their instinctual anti-AD reaction. They cover the gamut from simple things such as stickers to the pricing schemes of GW. Listen in for the nitty gritty details!
