About The Secret Cabal

The Original Secret Cabal Seal

The Secret Cabal is a York, Pennsylvania gaming club founded by James Keagy, Tony Topper, Brian Moore and Chris Miller – the four regular hosts of the Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast. The original club was founded in September of 2001, but did not officially become known as ‘The Secret Cabal’ until a few years later.

The membership of the Cabal has floated around 12 people since 2001. Members range from heavy roleplayers, to board and card players, to casual gamers.

The Secret Cabal’s motto “Striving Lest Our Company be Lazy Cowardly Manure” is translated from the original Latin ‘Niti ne noster ordo stercus ignavum fiat.’ The meaning behind this motto is something that all of our members strive to achieve.

Too often outside and inside forces alike attempt to poison and destroy that which makes us happy. Those forces are not always bad or wrong things but regardless of the motivation they stand in our way none the less. Our motto means that each member of the Secret Cabal will strive to not be lazy and allow ourselves to fall down on the couch or into a computer chair watching a glowing box each night as life passes us by. Each member of the Secret Cabal will strive not to be a coward allowing popular culture, girlfriends, wives, parents, kids, bosses and any other social regulation stop us from taking some time for ourselves and playing the games that we love. And each member of the Secret Cabal will not allow themselves to fall into a lifeless lump of smelly manure – it’s time to take back what we love in life and shout it proudly from the rooftops… “I am a gamer and I shall not be Lazy, Cowardly Manure!”
